Session 1 : Magazine Analysis

Dazed Magazine Winter 2022 winter issue is perfectly interpreted by Tavlor Russell, the actress who just opened Loewe Spring/Summer 2023 and signed as the brand’s spokesperson some time ago. It is not very complicated, but anthropomorphize people. The model is wearing a flower-shaped dress and standing in a flower-shaped dress and standing in a flower pot, which is a different visual experience with rich colours.

Most of Dazed’s advertising pages take place at the beginning of the magazine, with only a few placed at the end.

Interviews.

Like its name, Dazed incorporates teen culture, street colours and more into the magazine. This interview is one of my favourites in the whole magazine. The style of the interview is very unique and interesting with the interviewee answering the whole interview in handwritten form, making it a very enjoyable read.

Editorials

In the Editorial pages, the fashion stylist’s fashion looks are an indication of the unique editorial taste of dazed.

Articles.

The whole article is in a plain black font, but the stickers used are very special and close to the theme of the story, which is lovely.

Fashion Stories.

For Doreen Bloch, who co-founded the Makeup Museum in 2020, the history of cosmetics is at the heart of the way humans have evolved. The curators shared one of their prized treasures, make-up legend kevyn Aucoin’s fashion archive, revealing how today’s beauty trends are linked to the past also showing readers many images from the past, as well as being able to see that a lot of time was spent on decorating the pages.

Last pages

The last page is a closing page with an ad for The North Face.

Before the session tutor asked us to bring two magazines that we had used during the holidays to the session, I brought two different styles of magazines, 《Vogue》 and 《Dazed》. The session was about analyzing the inside pages of the magazines. Through the tutor’s explanation, I also understood the structure of a magazine, which is composed of front cover, Editors letter, Contributors page, Trends pages, Adverts, Advertorial, Beauty pages, Fashion news or stories, Interviews or articles, Fashion Editorials, Last page. Each of which has its own purpose.

Afterwards, the tutor asked us to use fluorescent sticky notes to mark the content areas of the different magazines. This process was very interesting and a very effective way to understand and clarify the content of a magazine. It was a fun way to start a new term and to encourage myself to organize my time in terms of homework.
