Session 13 : Front Covers

The task in this session was to make magazine front covers. An attractive cover can create a buzz and generate interest in the magazine. It can also be shared on social media, raising the profile of the magazine and potentially attracting more readers. A great magazine cover design should be unique, eye-catching and stand out from the dazzling array of magazines, while at the same time the design concept should be closely related to the theme of the magazine. The two magazines I created in class were dazed and vogue, I did some research and looked at many examples of magazine covers, for dazed it was praised and imitated for its unique editorial taste, so I would start by picking strong color photographs as my choice, whereas vogue is very different from dazed. Vogue covers are known for their high-end fashion and beauty photography, often showing the latest trends in clothing, make-up and hair. In short, magazine covers play a vital role in attracting readers, building brand image, generating buzz and previewing content. I found the class very helpful in my own work and the process was much more interesting than I expected, Moreover, I came away from today’s class with a general idea of how to create my own magazine covers.
